Tip Of The Month: Find a Balance
Have you ever said the phrase, “I would, but I don’t have time”?
Don’t worry, we all have.
Here are two things you need to know about this phrase:
1) You’re lying to yourself, and
2) You’ve yet to find a happy balance in life
You’re lying because you have ALL the time in the world to do exactly what you want — it just comes down to your priorities.
For example: If work, family, and religion are your top priorities in life, you’ll always make time to attend to those. But if fitness isn’t a priority in your life, you’ll find excuses to make for not spending time on it.
The fact that you’ve yet to find a balance is pretty evident, seeing as you’re not able to make time to do things that matter to you.
Why do I bring this up?
Because someone recently asked me how I did it all.
How I’m able to balance being a single mother of two, the CEO of an international multi-million-dollar company, traveling around the world for speaking engagements, keeping together an orderly home, and keeping up with my fitness…and do it all with a smile on my face.
I’d be lying if I told you it didn’t take some smiling through struggles, but the other 99% of it is a result of me finding a balance early in life.
I found a balance between all of my priorities.
There’s no direct formula for finding a good balance, but if I had to quantify it into five steps, here’s what I would suggest:
1) Establish your priorities — Internal and external.
Internal being things such as your mind, spirituality, and health, and external referring to things such as work, social, family and fun.
2) Look at your life — I mean really look at your life — and be honest with yourself about the areas you feel you’re neglecting.
3) Set goals for the person you want to be. Forget about all of the external forces in the world at this point. Just focus on the things you want to spend your time on and the person you want to become.
4) Act. Don’t waste time on beating yourself up for mistakes you committed in the past or regrets you have. All you can do is acknowledge your shortcomings and strive to be a better person tomorrow.
5) Repeat. To be a truly balanced person, you have to be consistent in your actions. Consistency and dedication will get you far in life.
As you move along in life and in your business, more and more things are going to be added onto your plate. So it’s going to require you to be able to prioritize like you’ve never done before.
Master this, and you’ll be 5 steps ahead of your competition.
