How to Build Wealth: Stop Saving, Start Forecasting

I’m killing the word “savings.” Today.

Savings is a lump of money with no job to do. No definition, no deadline, no purpose. We were all taught to save for a rainy day. There’s no such thing as a rainy day. That’s a cliché your grandparents handed you, and it’s costing you money right now.

Here’s what I teach instead: forecasting. Every dollar gets a name before it leaves your hands. An emergency account with rules attached to it. A college fund. A business fund. Money moves with a job attached, not a wish attached.

That one shift changes how you build wealth. It also changes how you make more of it. And it changes the pattern you run every single day with your money.

Stop Saving. Start Forecasting.

Savings is passive. Forecasting is active. When you forecast, you decide today what a dollar will be worth tomorrow. You’re not hoping it’s still there when the emergency hits. You already built the account, named it, and funded it on purpose.

I don’t care if your kids are six years old. They need to start putting five, ten, fifty dollars away regularly and watching it compound. As you get older, that number grows into the hundreds, then becomes the majority of what you make. Nobody under eighteen should be spending everything they earn. Fifty percent goes toward a future goal, whatever that goal is.

Once the money is forecasted, it needs somewhere to go. This is where most people freeze. They park it with a financial planner and pray. In The Millionaire Maker’s Guide to Wealth Cycle Investing, I teach that high-income earners don’t park their money and let it sit. They invest it directly. You either learn the market yourself or use tools built for it, like a smart folio. I’ve used automated trading tools for years because I tried being the person glued to the market every day and hated it. That’s not a lifestyle. That’s a job you didn’t sign up for.

“Savings is a lump of money that has no definition. There’s no such thing as a rainy day fund. Let’s get rid of it.”

Why “I Don’t Know How to Make Money” Isn’t a Real Problem

It drives me crazy when someone tells me they can’t afford something. You can afford anything you want. Make the money.

“But I don’t know how to make money.” Then let me teach you, because it’s not complicated. Get a job. If you need more, get a second job. Or start thinking like an entrepreneur with the skills you already have.

Broke folks trade time for money. Six-figure earners build systems. If you’re an engineer working for someone else, why aren’t you running an engineering consulting firm? If you’re good at digital marketing, do you know how many businesses have no idea how to do it themselves? We didn’t either, back in 2020, when everything shut down. We built a team, we learned it, and now look at where our channels have grown because of it.

This isn’t about going back to school. It’s about what you already know how to do today, right now, that someone else will pay you for.

Your Skill Set Is Your Cash Machine

In Creating a Cash Machine for Life, I ask people one question: if I dropped you anywhere in the country with nothing, what skill could you use to generate revenue within a week? That skill is your Cash Machine.

I hate shopping. I have a personal shopper for that exact reason, because my time is worth more than the task. Someone built a business around a skill I don’t want to use. That’s the whole model. People pay to have their houses cleaned, their windows washed, their meals prepped, their bodies trained. What do you already know how to do that someone else would rather pay for than learn themselves?

I sold what I loved. In 1996, I became the master distributor of the CASHFLOW game through my relationship with the Rich Dad Poor Dad brand. By 2010, I had represented 18 different experts in the wealth-building space. I did that on purpose, to immerse myself in the people who already held the titles I wanted. Study who’s doing what you want to do. Learn their pricing. Learn their model.

“What do you know today that you can put your hands on and say yes to right now?”

The Millionaire Pattern: Make, Invest, Make, Invest

Here’s the pattern every wealthy person I know runs, without exception: make, invest, make, invest.

The broke pattern is make, spend. Worse than that, it’s often make, spend, then hope you get paid later for work you already delivered. Too many people are emotional entrepreneurs. They don’t ask for the right price, and they don’t get paid in advance. Both of those are fixable this week.

If you’re not making enough to cover your bills, the fix isn’t cutting another expense. It’s marketing. You need more people finding you and more sales landing. Sales don’t come from the internet in the abstract. They come from a person deciding you solve their problem and paying you for it. That’s the whole transaction. What’s your problem? I’m the solution. Pay me. Then I get to work.

Start Today

You don’t need a five-year plan to start this. You need three moves this week.

Name every dollar. Open or relabel an account for one specific goal: emergency, business, or college. Stop letting money sit without a job.

Write down your skill set. Not your job title. Your actual skills. What could you monetize by Friday if you had to?

Price it and ask for it up front. Pick one thing from that list, put a number on it, and ask someone to pay you before you deliver, not after.

That’s forecasting instead of saving. That’s a Cash Machine, not a side hustle you never launch. That’s make, invest, make, invest, instead of make, spend.

Never compromise. Never give up. I’ll meet you where you are and take you where you want to go.
