The 4-Step Process to Eradicating the “Employee Mindset” You Didn’t Even Know You Still Had

The only way to ditch it is to first become aware of it, then go through a 4-step process to eradicate this old way of thinking and replace it with what we call a “boss mentality”.

But first, what exactly is the employee mindset? This is the kind of mindset that most people have. It’s what we’ve been trained to have all our lives; in school, in the previous jobs we’ve had, and everywhere we go. It’s shaped by our parents, our peers, the media, society, etc.

However, there is a different way of thinking that needs to be embraced in order to run a multi-million-dollar business, build a rock star team, and systematize the company to run itself so you don’t have to work much. The very first thing you need to do is understand your strengths and weaknesses, and how you can make the most of what you have. Most people have a hard time growing out of the employee mindset because it’s so deep-rooted in our psyche. This 4-step process will help you ditch this old way of thinking and step into the boss mentality you were born for.

1. Be in control.

The first mistake many people make is checking their email first thing in the morning, hoping that a client has put in an order—and that gives them an idea on how to operate for the day. They are looking for direction from someone else, which is completely the wrong way to look at business. They’re always looking for somebody to tell them what to do and how to do it.

That’s not the way it should be. Business owners need to be the ones running the show. They have to figure out what they want and then tell the team how to get it done. When you really understand how to take the focus of control internally and start directing what is going on in your business, that’s when you start leading with a true business mindset.

2. Change your beliefs.

The success therapy process helps people get to the root cause of why they do what they do, and change their beliefs. There are three ways to do that – reason, repetition, and emotional charge.

It doesn’t take 21 days to form a new habit. The more emotionally involved you are, the faster you will change. Paying close attention to how people who already have the millionaire mindset operate can help you develop that same mindset.

3. Overcome your resistance.

Some business owners hire other people to take care of things for them because they believe they’re not good at that particular job. And not because it’s something that should necessarily be handed off, but because of a mental block.

The problem with doing this that instead it creates, and feeds, your resistance towards something. Something that maybe you could actually be good at, if you really gave it a try.

To overcome this resistance, try doing it yourself. You don’t need to be an expert at it on the first try. It’s the process of breaking through your resistance that is so powerful. Then, if you need to, you can hire someone to hand it off to, and actually be able to train them on the task. Or if you’re hiring someone for something you have no experience in, just be sure you understand what they’re doing and how they do it.

4. Plan your day.

Think of what you want your day to look like first thing in the morning—set your intention. Don’t just think about your meetings and your appointments. Think about how you want those meetings to go, what kind of results you want to have, what problems you have and how you want to resolve those problems. Take ownership of everything that goes on in your day.

Look at areas of your business that cause anxiety and decide what action you can take right now to improve that. Think about what steps you can take right now to rectify the situation. You can’t operate with a boss mentality until you have full control of your day.

This 4-step process will not only get you out of your old mindset and way of operating, but also help you grow your business and build your wealth.

How do you know when you’re on the right track? Your company will run effectively without you having to actively work to survive, or stuck micromanaging your team. Once you have reached that level in your business, you are leading the boss mentality by example.
