In an interview with PIX11 Morning News, the international wealth expert focused on ways parents can help their children understand the value of money.
Entrepreneurs – do you want to know what’s consistently put me over the top throughout my career?
Surrounding myself with people who are playing a bigger game than me.
One key lesson I learned early that has really skyrocketed my career is the importance of surrounding yourself with bigger, like-minded wealth-builders – if you really want to uplevel your business, it’s crucial to do this.
It’s SO important to get around people who are playing a bigger game than you, people who can show you how to get to the next level, and connect you with those who can bring your idea to life.
The perfect place to do this is the Ultimate Millionaire Summit in this July 29 – August 1 in Lake Tahoe. You can go here for more info:https://UltimateMillionaireSummit.com.
The Ultimate Millionaire Summit is a 4-day intensive, gathering of an international all-star community of entrepreneurs.
I’ll be there along with some of my big-time buddies like Kevin Harrington[Infomercial creator & original Shark Tank investor], Perry Belcher [Digital Marketer co-founder, importer & investor] Glenn Morshower [star actor], Ron LeGrand [real estate investment godfather], Sharon Lechter [best-selling author], plus a bunch of others.
We all come together (along with a few hundred other entrepreneurs) to network, swap the latest million-dollar ideas, add high-level referrals, boost our business academia, & collaborate to explode our businesses even more.
We’re going to have some gold-medal Olympians on hand that’ll show you that what it takes to be an Olympian is not too different from what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur…
Now, before you check out the event, I want to let you know that everyone must apply to attend. Why?
Because we find that the impact, the relationships, the value and the success of our event increases exponentially when we curate the attendees and don’t let just anyone purchase a ticket.

Late last year, I was smack-dab in the middle of an over-packed travel schedule, more JV’s than I could count, new projects popping up left and right, and amazing new partners presenting themselves by the boatload – all this while trying to be a good mother to my two kids.
In 2013 all together, I was on almost 100 stages and was away from home for more than 200 days. Yup, almost 2/3 of the year.
Day after day I would grind and grind and grind until it finally hit me – burn out.
Yes, I have a big group of virtual employees, a large in-office staff, widespread international offices…but I’m also an entrepreneur.
As you well know, entrepreneurs have 10 ideas an hour – minimum. And I have a huge issue with saying the word “no” as opportunities come my way.
Entrepreneurs, we’re weirdo’s.
We get this thought in our head that if we don’t do it ourselves it won’t be done well enough. Or that it’s cheaper to learn to do something ourselves rather than outsourcing it.
We have some serious issues going on in between our ears.
I do, too…I plain did too much and burned out.
I won’t lie to you: The entrepreneur life is really about freedom and designing the life you want … but behind the scenes, it can be messy.
I wasn’t my normal, blow-your-socks-off-with-my-energy self.
So, I took some time away.
I had to get away to be with my kids, doing things that didn’t involve wrecking my brain.
It was amazing to get away.
I bounced back with a fierce rejuvenation – just ask my staff LOL.
I learned a lot about myself through this trial, mainly to follow my own advice better and sequence my business according to my values.
But do you want to know the most amazing part, the silver lining, the blessing in disguise from my messy situation?
I had a team to keep things going and running smoothly.
Everything ran as planned.
It was as if I was not even gone.
You do that by hiring the right people in the right roles, and having the right systems in place.
To tell you the truth, I’ve grown this team over the better part the last 20 years.
The main reason was that I did not want to be run by my business anymore.
I wanted to run my business.
Because here’s the stone-cold truth: I don’t care how automated your business is, if you overdo things by yourself as an entrepreneur, I guarantee you will hit that wall.
That wall stinks.
But I’m to the point now where I can take weeks off – literally weeks off – and my business doesn’t miss a beat.
It’s unbelievably relieving knowing I have a more-than capable team to run the ship if I’m out…
Why do I tell you all this?
Because maybe you can relate.
Maybe you have this “Superhero Syndrome” too. You try to do everything, jump on every opportunity, give every single thing your undivided attention.
Maybe you’re just like me and have this ill-advised thought that if you don’t do it yourself, it won’t be done the best it can be (this is totally wrong, by the way).
This won’t work for long.
Eventually, you’ll overwhelm yourself, snap into reality, and realize that even if there were 48 hours in one day, you would still not be able to accomplish everything on your own.
So, outsource it.
Train people and trust people.
Create a strong, responsible, visionary team around you to carry the torch when you have to take some time for yourself – we’re all human.
Learning to have faith in your team is a process, but you’ll get there through finding the right people that fit your values – I don’t doubt it.
Trust me, you’ll be much better off in the long run.
Because what I’ve learned is that when you’re building your freedom, building your team, taking more things off of your plate…not only do you get more time…but you become way more successful!
So, don’t end up where I did.
If you’re on the path to burning out, take a step away from what you’re doing and ask yourself: What can I train and trust someone on my team to do so that I will never have to do it again myself?
Trust me, you’ll be a lot happier once you do.
I always get asked how you can continue to network, beyond exchanging cards, after you leave 3 Days to Cash. Well, thanks to my brilliant social media team there is now a way for you to do that. Today, we launched the 3 Days to Cash Linked In Group! To join, you need to be a confirmed 3 Days to Cash alumni. That means, you must have attended my 3 Days to Cash program or you must be scheduled and confirmed to attend one in the future. That’s right, if you have been eyeing Sydney or San Francisco, this group gives you one more reason to step up and learn how to ask for the cash. Check it out and let me know what you think. We need to fill this puppy with members so everyone gets the best networking benefit.
See you there!
I was having a discussion the other day with a friend who was having a hard time finding a job. Yeah, I’ve had the discussion with him about how much easier it would be if he leveraged his gifts to work for himself. However, he finds himself faced with an immense personal roadblock. He finds it difficult to make connections. This issue is more common than you might think. Just last week, I attended Loral’s Power of Yes! event in San Francisco and the need for this skill made itself very obvious in the room. Someone had not only the opportunity to make a connection, but to make a SALE, and they didn’t go for it. Why? It just didn’t come naturally. Sometimes, making a connection won’t seem natural. Sometimes, it will take a little legwork, mind-work and a large dose of Yes! Energy to make it happen. But you CAN make it happen!
Here are a few techniques to try this weekend as you venture out to expand your network.
1) Carry business cards – Everywhere, no matter where you are going, you should have cards in your pocket and a smile ready (along with your elevator pitch) when they do come out of your pocket.
2) Work your online network – LinkedIn: Do an export and send a friendly hello to your list. Open up those doors. You never know who will invite you to walk through theirs.
3) Pick up the phone! – Have actual phone conversations. People who respond to your casual hello, ask if you can call them to catch up. If the conversation leans toward business (and it will because you should ultimately direct it that way) you can tell them what you have been up to, relay your success stories, trade war stories and ultimately seek referral.
4) Get OUT there! – You are not going to open doors by sitting at your computer and firing off emails. Attend some mixers. Find your local chamber. Support a local charity. Get out there, with your business cards in your pocket, and make a great impression.
You can DO THIS! Have a great weekend!
Google+ is adding new features and functionality nearly on a daily basis for the 25 million users so far today. Change is a good thing, especially for the upcoming Google+ for business, which we will discuss below.
Here’s an overview of what’s new at Google+ for user profiles as of this month:
- Get notified when people you invited join Google+
- Take your profile photo with your web camera
- Verification badges on profiles of public figures, celebrities, and people who have been added to a large number of Circles
- Slide-in animation when you get a new notification when someone comments on your post, adds you to a circle, or takes any other Google+ action that involves you
- Google+ bar float at the top of the screen when you scroll down to maximize reading space
- Collapse and expand comments
- Games on Google+. When you’re ready to play, the Games page will show you gameplay updates from your circles, your latest game notifications and information on what’s been played recently.
Google+ for business, brand or entity profiles
They are “coming soon” (i.e. before the end of the year). In the meantime, Google is asking businesses to hold off on creating consumer profiles as what it has planned will be without the “workarounds” required on Facebook (and more compelling). Besides, Google+ will be shutting down non-user accounts when the business feature is available. However, there are businesses in test mode now and doors seem to be closed for any new beta testers.
Business accounts will be different from user profiles. They will include such things as rich analytics and the ability to connect to products like AdWords.
“How users communicate with each other is different from how they communicate with brands,” reports Google+, Product Manager Christian Oestlien. (You can see his video explaining more about business profiles here.)
PCWorld is speculating on the superiority of Google+ for businesses over Facebook Pages. They’re suggesting how Google could integrate its “Apps for Business productivity suite, with tools including word processing and calendars, as well as its booming Apps Marketplace of third-party apps.”
More apps include:
- Google +1
- Google Checkout
- Android devices, such as Mobile Payments
- Products Search
- Google Docs
- Google Maps
- Google Places
And let’s not forget about Google+ Hangouts (group video)!
PCWorld closed its article (mentioned above) with the most revealing benefit Google+ has to offer:
… For better or worse, Google has built its reputation on helping you find what you need–whether it’s a location, an image, or a product. Facebook has repeatedly stated that it’s focused on helping you connect with your friends. So when Google+ business profiles allow you to integrate your business’s presence into trusted tools used by everyday searchers, it’s a proposition that neither Facebook nor business owners can afford to ignore.
There is great power in influence.
One of the things I talk about in my new book, Yes! Energy: The Equation To Do Less, Make More, is influence. Not just yours but also the influence of others on your behalf.
It’s your power of influence within your business networks that can greatly increase your sales, land those deals and meet influential people that you need to so you can move your business forward much faster.
How can you build this seemingly magical power?
Robert Cialdini defined six “weapons of influence”: reciprocity, commitment, social proof, authority, liking and scarcity. These “weapons of influence” attempt to bring about conformity by directed means. Persuasion can occur through appeals to reason or appeals to emotion.
Your power of influence is most needed in your leadership roles in work and life.
The power and influence theory of leadership states that leadership is based on the nature of the relationships between leaders and the people who follow them, which are shaped by the power and influence exerted by the leaders, rather than on the exceptional abilities those leaders as individuals are supposed to possess.
Simply put, the power of influence (aka authority) is more important than even your abilities when it comes to leadership, particularly of your teams – business team and wealth team (and even family, really).
How do you build a circle of influence that can help you achieve your life goals?
Build Your Network of Contacts
Whether you’re a solo-preneur or a high-end consultant, a Fortune 500 CEO or a programmer looking for a job, your contacts can mean everything to your future.
Cultivating your network is essential. Go to meet-ups, seminars, conventions and other events as much as possible and get to know the players in the industry.
Build real relationships — this isn’t about gaining acquaintances! This is about becoming known and gaining influence.
What Goes Around Comes Around
Whether you believe in karma or not, this type of attitude works well for everyone involved.
What benefit might come around if you have coffee with someone you met and could give them valuable advice about their business? Maybe nothing. But just maybe that person knows someone who can help you in your business and their testimonial about you might be that foot in the door with that influential person you’ve needed to meet with.
The business community is a cycle of give and take — and reciprocity. It’s about influence, yours and those you know. Those who are generous about sharing their ideas, their time and their contacts often find the same in return. You might not see the benefits right away, but the good will you build will come back to you.
It engenders what Cialdini refers to as reciprocity. In other words, people will respond in kind, returning benefits for benefits.
Build a reputation for helping people, not taking their money. Do this consistently and your reputation and power of influence and persuasion will increase dramatically.
