August 2013 Newsletter: Lessons from Alumni

Helpful Resource

While the dinner, karaoke, poolside relaxing, and all that extra stuff at Alumni were great, one of my favorite parts about the event has always been the Community Breakout sessions.Overall, we had 25 breakouts during Tuesday and Wednesday, with topics such as marketing to lawsuit protection to real estate investing to book publishing to building a mobile website to increasing social media traffic to being genuinely happy…just about everything

Anyway, from popping in & out of the sessions, I jotted down 3 helpful resources that should be able to aid you regardless of whatever stage you’re in.

1) “Keep in contact with your top 25.” — Jill Lublin

The top thing I took from Jill’s breakout on “Getting Paid for Who You Know” was to send your top 25 contacts “hey, how’s it going?” emails every 3 months or so.

Very, very simply way to keep in contact with people, strike up conversations, and learn about opportunities you may not have otherwise known about. You never know who can be able to help you push your career further.

2) “The easiest way to get what you want is to help people get what they want.” — Thomas Blackwell

Thomas (from Infusionsoft) hit it right on the head. This applies to pretty much every aspect of life. The key to sales and making money is not “sales.” It’s “helping people.”

You have to rewire your mind to think that instead of selling someone on a product or service you offer, you’re offering help with a product or service at your disposal.

Put them before you.

3) “Make up a word and add it as a hashtag at the end of your YouTube videos.” Craig Duswalt

Craig is such a ROCKSTAR. He came onto the stage & started throwing shirts out into the crowd!

Craig, from Rockstar Marketing, was awesome enough to leave us with a tangible tip we could implement immediately.

Basically, when you upload a video to YouTube, add your normal hashtags to it. Then, make up a word and use it as your final hashtag. Make it up.

What does this do?

Well, at the end of the video, when the “related videos” pop up, if you use this made-up hashtag enough with your videos, all of the “related videos” will be yours.

Voila.

I love quirky little tips like these.
